Golf Results - 24 January 2013

In the United States, the American Russell Henley was victorious at the Sony Open in Hawaii, becoming the event's youngest-ever champion at the age of 23.Henley, who made his debut on the US PGA Tour this season, played a calm and collected four rounds at Waialae Country Club to win the first event on the 2013 calendar.

Having tied for the lead overnight with fellow rookie Scott Langley, Henley fired an impressive eight birdies during Sunday's final round to card a final score of 256, or 24-under-par. South Africa's Tim Clark carded birdies on the last four holes to finish in second place, while Langley dropped to third place after three bogeys on the back nine took him out of contention for the title.

For Henley, who graduated from the Web.com tour last season, winning his first PGA Tour title at the first event of the season can only be a good omen. Golf fans should keep an eye on the unflappable 23-year-old as he makes his debut on the Tour.

The European Tour travelled to South Africa last week where local favourite Louis Oosthuizen won the season-opening Volvo Golf Champions.

Oosthuizen, who is known to local fans as "King Louis", staged a dramatic comeback in sunny weather during Sunday's final round to beat the Englishman Scott Jamieson by a single stroke to lift the trophy. The South African began the final round five strokes off the pace, but carded eight birdies over eighteen holes to erase Jamieson's lead.

Oosthuizen birdied two of the opening three holes, followed by birdies on the sixth, eighth, tenth, eleventh, and final two holes to seal the deal. The Englishman had no answer to Oosthuizen's charge, and the affable South African lifted the trophy after 18 holes amid roaring applause from the local crowd. Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee was in third place behind Jamieson.
