Player Profile - Rory Sabbatini

The European Tour was in recess this week, allowing players to prepare for the World Golf Championship to be held in Flordia this coming weekend. The recess gave European players the opportunity to partake in two weeks of action-packed golf in the United States, which saw the international golf rankings re-shuffled once again. The European Tour will resume in two weeks with the Sicilian Open on March 17th.

With the US PGA Tour taking centre stage this week, the South African golfer Rory Sabbatini stole the show by winning the Honda Classic. At the end of a weekend marked by windy weather conditions, the South African held off stiff competition from Korea’s Yang Yong-eun to clinch the title and winnings. This victory will mean a great deal to Sabbatini, who just six months ago underwent cancer surgery and whose wife suffered a very difficult birth of their child. Local favourite Jerry Kelly came in third, amid cheers from the crowd in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

This week will see players from across the globe compete in the next leg of the World Golf Championship Commencing on Monday, March 7th the championship is to be held at TPC Blue Monster in Doral, Florida. Taking advantage of the sunshine state’s mild winter weather, this tournament should see the top 50 players in the world golf rankings go head to head in the Cadillac Championship. A newly refurbished course, designed to challenge the most adept of golfers, will test the mettle of the world’s golfing elite as they navigate tricky lies and perilous bunkers to lift the trophy. Full results and highlights from this prestigious championship will appear next week.
